DEATH: Lived to be quite old - became totally blind and had to be led about by a negro boy. ! Will dated 8 june 1793 names a grandson, Richard Smith. ! Last will & testament proved 29 June 1795, Wit Charles Boyd & Daniel Green Ex sons Moses & Joshua; names Grandson Richard Smith and Granddaughters Patience and Mary Lamb BIRTH: May have been Somerset County, Maryland.To all people and etc. I, John Smith of the County of Chester greetings know ye that I John Smith and for in the consideration and natural love and affection that I bear for my son Moses Smith and for other good couses we these and to moving have truly given and granted and by these presence do give and grant unto Moses Smith the negro man named Fartune and the negro boy named Richard two cows and calves and futher I do give until my son Moses Smith one small negro girl name Dinna. Greeting know ye that I the said John Smith for the natural love and affection I have for my son Joshua Smith and also for other good causes and other consideration an me in moving have given and granted Joshua Smith the negro man name Abram negro boy Capt, the negro girl name Sibbince and the young negro boy name Jack. There he married Patience Bland. By April 1765 this couple was in Prince William Co VA when son Joshua Smith was born. John Smith was a Baptist by faith and a Farmer. He went totally blind in later years and was led about by a negro boy - Cheek's "Smith Wills, Deeds and Family Histories" p 250
