    Son of Amaury de Montfort and his first wife, Agnes of Garland, comtesse de Rochefort. Grandson of Simon I, seigneur de Montfort, and his wife Agnès d'Évreux,
    daughter of Richard, Count of Évreux. Brother of Amaury IV and Agnes, the wife of Waleran de Beaumont, 1st Earl of Worcester. He was born about 1121, at Montfort-Sur-Risle, Eure, France.

    Simon married an Amicia and a Matilda about 1140 and had three children:
    * Bertrade, wife of Sir Hugh of Kevelioc, Earl of Chester
    * Simon IV, married Amicia de Beaumont

Also known as Hugh le Meschin. Born at Kevelioc, Monmouth, Wales, died at Leek, Staffordshire, England. Son of Ranulf de Gernon and Maude of Glouchester. Became to 3rd Earl of Chester on 16 December 1153, and Vicomte d'Avranches [Normandy] on 16 December 1153. He fought in the Battle of Alnwick on 13 July 1174, where he was taken prisoner by King Henry II. He was deprived of his Earldom, but it was restored in January 1177.
