Daughter of Sir Gilbert de Clare Earl of Hertford and Lady Isabel Marshall. Granddaughter of Richard de Clare Earl of Hertford and Amice FitzRobert, William Marshall Earl of Pembroke and Isabel de Clare.

Isabel was married to Robert de Brus, the 5th Lord of Annandale on the 12th of May 1240, with a dowry that included the village of Ripe, Sussex. Isabel and Robert had six children:
* Robert, 6th Lord of Annandale & Earl of Carrick
* William, married Elizabeth de Sully
* Bernard, married Alicia de Clare & Constance de Morleyn
* Richard who died before 1287
* Isabella, wife of Sir John FitzMarmaduke
* Constance, wife of Sir William Scot de Calverly

Isabel's husband was a candidate for the throne of Scotland but his rival, John Balliol, was elected King in 1292. When After Isabel's death in 1264, King John died in 1314, and Isabel's grandson, Robert the Bruce, became King of Scotland. Isabel's husband would marry a second time to Christina de Ireby but have no issue.

Note: Isabel has been left where her memorial originator placed her, but I will continue to search for documentation as to her burial.

Robert V de Brus (Robert de Brus), 5th Lord of Annandale, was a feudal lord, Justice and Constable of Scotland and England, a Regent of Scotland, and a leading competitor for the Scottish throne in 1290/92 in the Great Cause. His grandson Robert the Bruce eventually became King of Scots.
Robert was son of Robert Bruce, 4th Lord of Annandale and Isobel of Huntingdon, the second daughter of David of Scotland, 8th Earl of Huntingdon and Matilda de Kevilloc of Chester. David in turn was the son of Henry of Scotland, Earl of Huntingdon and Northumberland and Ada de Warenne; Henry's parents were King David I of Scotland and Maud of Northumberland.
